🌀 Isaac · Category 1 · 80 mph
Hurricane Isaac was a deadly and destructive tropical cyclone that came ashore in the U.S. state of Louisiana during August 2012. The ninth named storm and fourth hurricane of the annual hurricane season, Isaac originated from a tropical wave that moved off the west coast of Africa on August 16. Tracking generally west, a broad area of low pressure developed along the wave axis the next day, and the disturbance developed into a tropical depression early on August 21 while several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The system intensified into a tropical storm shortly thereafter, but high wind shear initially prevented much change in strength. Category 1 hurricane: peak winds of 80 mph (70 knots), lowest pressure 965 mb. August 20 – September 1, 2012. Landfalls: August 25 at 65 mph, 18.3°N 72.7°W; August 25 at 60 mph, 20.1°N 74.5°W; August 29 at 80 mph, 28.9°N 89.4°W; August 29 at 80 mph, 29.2°N 90.2°W. Accumulated cyclone energy: 10.4.
