1873 Atlantic hurricane season · 5 storms, 3 hurricanes, 2 major

Sunday, June 1, 1873 · 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM

The 1873 Atlantic hurricane season was quiet, featuring only five known tropical cyclones, but all of them made landfall, causing significant impacts in some areas of the basin. Of these five systems, three intensified into a hurricane, while two of those attained major hurricane status. However, in the absence of modern satellite and other remote-sensing technologies, only storms that affected populated land areas or encountered ships at sea were recorded, so the actual total could be higher. An undercount bias of zero to six tropical cyclones per year between 1851 and 1885 and zero to four per year between 1886 and 1910 has been estimated. 5 storms, 3 hurricanes, 2 major hurricanes (Category 3+). Strongest: an unnamed storm (115 mph). Accumulated cyclone energy ≈ 69. Wiki link
