About
Destiny’s Child’s 2001 hit “Bootylicious” celebrated the voluptuous woman. The song’s title eventually ended up in the Oxford English Dictionary thanks to the popularity of the song. The song samples Stevie Nicks' “Edge of Seventeen” and Nicks even makes a cameo in the song’s video. This is one of the few Destiny’s Child songs where Kelly Rowland sang most of the lead vocals. Rowland told the Daily Mail in 2008: Some people thought a song like ‘Bootylicious’ was about being sexy, but it was more about having confidence in your own skin. In 2013, Beyoncé told GQ: ‘Bootylicious’ was funny, but it came from people saying that I had gained weight. I’m like, ‘I’m a southern woman, and this is how southern women are.’ This song was written and produced by Beyoncé, Rob Fusari, and Falonte Moore. In a 2010 interview with Billboard, Fusari complained about how not getting enough credit for the song. I remember watching Barbara Walters interview Beyoncé about ‘Bootylicious,’ and she told Barbara about how she came up with the idea for the track. I was like, ‘What?’ I called Mathew Knowles and said, “Mathew, like, why?“ He said, “People don’t want to hear about Rob Fusari, producer from Livingston, N.J. That’s not what sells records. What sells records is people believing that the artist is everything.
