About
“Check On It” is featured on the Deluxe Edition and the Japanese edition from B'Day by Beyoncé. The song was serving as the main theme of the 2006 film The Pink Panther, in which Beyonce co-starred as Xania and it was supposed to be featured on the film’s soundtrack. As it was ultimately not included on the soundtrack the track, but was nevertheless played during The Pink Panther’s end credits and used in TV spots to promote the film. Lyrically, the song takes place in a dance club, where the female protagonist is letting the male patrons know that they are welcome to come and look at her body when she is dancing. In the first verse, Beyoncé sings to the “sexual teasing” lyrics, which are addressed to the men looking at her. Music critics received the song positively, complimenting Beyoncé’s vocal performance, and the easiness as well as the confidence she displays while singing her lyrics. “Check on It” won the Best R&B Video at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards and it was also nominated for Video of the Year at the 2006 BET Awards. Beyoncé’s live performances of the song have some iconic dance moves. During her first live performance of “Check On It” at The Beyoncé Experience Live in 2007, she is “chewing gum” and “patting her weave”, which became iconic dance moves to this song. She did it again at her I Am… World Tour in 2010. During her iconic Coachella headlining performance in 2018, 8 years sinds the last live performance of “Check On It”, Beyoncé reenacted the dance moves.
