About

Disco Lady was written by Harvey Scales, Albert Vance and Don Davis (who also produced the song). It was featured on Johnnie’s album “Eargasm.” The song was Johnnie’s first single for Columbia Records since his previous long-time record label Stax Records went bankrupt. Parliament-Funkadelic’s bassist Bootsy Collins, keyboardist Bernie Worrell & guitarist Glenn Goins along with Tony Orlando & Dawn singer Telma Hopkins appeared on the track. “Disco Lady” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles chart in the spring of 1976, making it the first song with the word “disco” to top the Hot 100. It was also the first single to be certified Platinum by the RIAA.
