About
“Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” is a hit song by American dance group C+C Music Factory. It was originally written by Cole & Civilles (aka C & C) for Trilogy, a group they managed, but when the group declined, C & C decided to use it to launch their new music project. The song was released as the group’s debut single and was an international smash, reaching #1 in five countries (including the US) and the top five in four others in early 1991. The song went triple platinum in the US in less than a year, and was certified 5x platinum in 1994. The rap featured in the song is by Freedom Williams and the female vocals are by Martha Wash. Originally the female vocals were credited to Zelma Davis (and Davis appeared in the song’s music video), but it was later revealed that former Weather Girls singer Martha Wash was hired as a session musician and performed on the track. Wash later filed lawsuits for not getting credit on this song, plus Black Box “Everybody Everybody” and Seduction “You’re My One And Only True Love”.
