About
Songwriter Steve Tyrell was brought into the TV show The Heights before the cast had been auditioned and chosen. He suggested to TV producer Aaron Spelling that Jamie Walters be hired. He was cast in the role of Alex Powers, a shy lyricist for the show’s band. Tyrell then suggested Powers turn out to be a singer and guitarist who is then asked to join the band. “How Do You Talk To An Angel” was written by Tyrell, his wife and producer Barry Coffing as Powers' expression of his crush on the band’s female saxophone player. The song topped the US pop chart for two weeks and was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music and Lyrics”. The Heights didn’t last long on TV. It was canceled by Fox soon after “How Do You Talk To An Angel” reached #1. It did however launch Jamie Walters' acting and music career. He not only landed a role on the popular show Beverly Hills 90210 but Atlantic Records also signed him. “Hold On”, the first single from his debut album, reached #16 on the US pop chart in 1995.
