About
This song was written by Gary Baker and Frank Myers. It was originally sung by country artist John Michael Montgomery. His version was released in December, 1993 and peaked at no. 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. When the head of Montgomery’s label couldn’t be convinced to have Montgomery record a pop version of the song for fear of offending country radio, Doug Morris, CEO of Atlantic Records, had famed super producer David Foster put together this version. This version, the second single from All-4-One’s debut album, was released a little over four months after Montgomery’s and hit no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained at that position for 11 consecutive weeks and eventually won a 1995 Grammy award.
