The song reached #1 in both the UK and the US, and continued to be been a fixture on the charts nearly two decades after its release. The song landed in the top 25 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Recurrents chart in 2000, 2001 & 2002. It’s also listed at #479 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The choir featured is part of the Gospel Music Workshop Of America—they also appear in the song’s music video.
