About
The fabulous feminist anthem “Independent Women Part 1” was originally released as part of the soundtrack to Charlie’s Angels, but was later included on Destiny’s Child’s third album, Survivor due to its popularity. Destiny’s Child member Beyonce’s father, Matthew Knowles, sent the track to the “Charlie’s Angels” soundtrack without permission. The song spent 11 weeks at number one on the Hot 100, becoming the group’s longest running number one. The narrative of the song details Yoncé and Co’s independence in relationships. They don’t need a man to buy them stuff, because they can buy and rock anything they want. Of course, it doesn’t mean they’d shun a relationship, but as they say in verse 1, it’s 50/50; she doesn’t need to rely on him and vice versa.
