About

“Islands in the Stream” was a Bee Gees-authored mega hit named after an Ernest Hemingway novel and performed by country superstars Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Rogers had originally given up on recording the song until Parton, recording in the same building, joined him in singing it. The duo topped the Hot 100 with it in the US in late 1983, and took it to the top 10 in several countries including a #7 peak in the UK. The Bee Gees had originally written the track for Marvin Gaye as an R&B number, and later recorded it themselves in that style. In 1998, ex-Fugee member Pras Michel interpolated this song into “Ghetto Superstar (That Is What You Are)” and took it to #15 in the US.
