About
“Justify My Love” was one of two new songs recorded by Madonna for her first greatest hits compilation The Immaculate Collection. Produced by Lenny Kravitz, the erotic ballad features Madonna seductively speak-singing about a series of sexy reveries over lush synth strings and a manipulated Public Enemy beat. The song’s iconic black-and-white music video (featuring simulated threesomes and then-shocking depictions of bisexuality) was banned from MTV and VH1, which created a furor around the song, sending it straight to number one on the Billboard charts. Madonna talked about the banning: Why is it that people are willing to go and watch a movie about someone getting blown to bits for no reason at all, and nobody wants to see two girls kissing and two men snuggling?
