About
Serving as his second single from his FutureSex / LoveSounds album and in collaboration with Timbaland and T.I,, Justin Timberlake released “My Love” on October 24, 2006. Here, he took a musical approach to express his love for his partner, the ways he sees a bright future with her by spending the most romantic moments together, and claim that she is irreplaceable. According to Timberlake, this R&B track took “two hours to imagine and execute”, along with critics slightly relating it to his 2002 hit single, “Cry Me A River”. “It is similar. You go back to Aaliyah’s biggest record, “Are You That Somebody”—it’s similar to that too because it’s that percussive ballad”. Relatively speaking, many have described Timberlake’s track in various ways: from a “languid love ballad, prickling with dark emotion”, a “slow, saucy beat”, with a “twitching mass of rave synthesizers”. Critical responses were positive, with the R&B crooner being praised for his ability to “reinvent mainstream pop music and increase his artistic credibility at the same time”. In addition, more recent reports described the song as being “one of the foundational texts of the PBR&B explosion of the 2010s”. Ultimately, “My Love” managed to help Timberlake in winning a Grammy award in 2007 for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
