About

“Rock Your Baby” was written by Harry Wayne Casey (aka KC) and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band. It was featured on McCrae’s album Rock Your Baby. The song’s backing track was recorded in 45 minutes as a demo featuring KC and the Sunshine band guitarist Jerome Smith. Originally, the song wasn’t intended for McCrae, but he happened to be in the studio at the time and added a vocal. “Rock Your Baby” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles chart in July of 1974. Internationally, the song topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Austria, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden. The song inspired a response song called “Rockin' Chair” which was sung by George’s then-wife, Gwen McCrae. It topped Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart in June of 1975.
