S&M was originally going to be recorded by Spears until Rihanna heard the song and loved it, eventually putting it on her fifth album, the 2010 Loud. Later, when asking her fans who should be on the remix version, Britney Spears was voted and she accepted, singing the second verse and a part of the bridge. Thus, the remix generated more streams for S&M. The track was released worldwide 11 April 2011.
